Ebbsfleet United took a massive step towards cementing a Blue Square Bet South play-off place with a 3-0 victory at Eastleigh on Saturday afternoon.

Ashley Carew (pictured) was the hero with two goals, putting the visitors ahead on 14 minutes before Ricky Shakes doubled the lead three minutes before the interval.

Carew grabbed his second in the opening minute of the second half and United cruised to the final whistle to dent their hosts play-off push.

Fleet sit third in the table with three games remaining, seven points adrift of champions-elect Braintree, but more importanly eight points clear of sixth-placed Dover Athletic.
