People were evacuated from their homes last night after a fire in a nightclub courtyard.

It happened at 10.30pm at CC Rooms, on High Street, Gravesend.

It was thought to be caused by smoking materials and was contained to a small area in the club's courtyard area.

A spokesman said: "Fire crews were called to reports of a fire, thought to have been started accidentally by smoking materials being dropped through a small area in the club's courtyard decking.

"Residents from flats above the nightclub were evacuated from their homes as a precaution due to smoke spread but no one was hurt."
