The first farmers market in Gravesend town centre was hailed a success today by stallholders and customers.

About 17 local companies had pitches selling produce ranging from cheese and wine to fruit and veg.

Lucy Burgess, owner of Delicious Farmhouse Chocolate, was one.

As she packed up at 2.30pm, she said: “I’m very pleased with how today went, especially considering I’m quite a long way down the High Street.”

A regular stallholder at Meopham farmers market, Mrs Burgess said the Gravesend market has potential.

“I think interest will build, a lot of people are saying they have been waiting for a farmers market here for ages.”
