Punjab United FC of Cedar Avenue, Gravesend footballers’ national competition triumph

The England national squad could take notes from Punjab United FC after the team took home the glory at a national competition.

Punjab, who play on pitches in Cedar Avenue, Gravesend, won the Hounslow KFF tournament in the division one category, beating Watford team Singh Sabha 1-0 in the final.

The team played three games over two days before reaching the final winning 4-3, 6-2 and 2-0 on the way. The results left Punjab top of the table with 13 points, five more than Singh Sabha in second place.

Sian Formwork have a football team, Punjab Utd FC and they won a trophy

Club chairman Chipie Sian said: “The players were exceptional all weekend. They played some fantastic football and managed to win one of the best tournaments in the UK.

“Punjab FC are becoming one of the biggest Asian clubs in the South East and with new youth teams from under-sevens to under-13s, the club has a bright future.”

Gravesham councillor Tanmanjeet Dhesi, Labour’s MP candidate for Gravesham, learned about the lads’ achievement and congratulated them during a visit to concrete specialists Sian Formwork in Stonebridge Road, Northfleet, to promote the ZCS Training Centre, which is run as part of the firm on the same site.

Punjab FC is associated with Sian Formwork and some of players were there to meet the councillor and show him their trophy.

Cllr Dhesi said: “It is a great achievement for the local Punjab United team to have won the Hounslow tournament, competing against 15 other teams from across the UK.”
