Gravesend produced an impressive 15-man performance to beat Civil Service 34-7 in National League 3 South East on Saturday.

Dave Dorton’s early penalty put Gs 3-0 ahead and then, with 27 minutes gone, the full-back was successful with another kick to make it 6-0.

Gravesend’s territorial superiority was due to good second phase ball retention that pushed Civil Service back to their own 22 and Gs’ first try came on 35 minutes when Moorey forced his way over. Dorton added the conversion for 13-0.

Gs now put several more good passing moves together and they were rewarded when Adam Bishop outpaced the defence to touch down. Dorton converted to put Gs 20-0 ahead at the break.

The lead was soon increased to 27-0 when wing Tom Goss went over for a try, converted by Dorton, before Civil Service scored their only points of the game through a converted try by replacement Chris Endersby.

Some determined Civil Service prevented a further Gs score but they finally broke through again with another try by Moorey, again converted by Dorton, to earn a bonus point which was enough to lift them away from the relegation zone.
