Gravesend on the charge against Tring Picture: Nick Johnson

Gravesend had victory snatched away from them with two minutes remaining as Tring stole in for a late try to win 16-14 in National 3 London & South East.

The Gs made the worst possible start on Saturday when scrum-half Samuel Clapham touched down to put Tring ahead, before a Liam Chennells penalty extended their lead to 8-0.

As the home side started to build momentum, skipper Jamie Forsyth broke through to score a try at the other end, with Josh Smith kicking the conversion.

Another Chennells penalty gave Tring a four-point cushion but Gravesend went into half-time 14-11 in front after Sam Hall rounded off a fine team move with a try which Smith converted.

Gravesend dominated much of the second period but failed to make their territorial advantage count. Tring then punished poor tackling when David Shotton crossed to score what proved to be the winning try.
