Hundreds were left without power after a fault in underground lines affected over two dozen postcode areas.

On one of the coldest days of the year so far, residents in Gravesend were deprived of central heating and use of their appliances and devices.

Hundereds of Gravesend residents have been left without power following a UK Power Networks electricty outage (61237201)

UK Power Networks confirmed the outage with a post on their website this morning.

It read: "An underground electricity cable has faulted on our high-voltage network, causing an area wide power cut."

As of 9.15pm, the utility company says 15 households were still affected and the service will likely not resume until 10.30pm to 11.30pm.

UKPN has been contacted for comment.
