For one night only, Cyclopark is set to transform into a sparkling stunt arena – and your jam jars could play a part.

Gravesham Arts Council has handed Europe’s biggest cycle centre a grant to host FireSpring, a stunt spectacular featuring fireworks, dancers, cyclists and BMX riders, directed by artist Karen Poley.

Local cyclists are invited to get involved by joining in with the FireSpring Bike Train, riding from Gravesham Civic Centre to the Cyclopark on bikes adorned with lights and reflectives.

Your jam jars are needed to help Cyclopark's big event

The train will set off from the civic centre at 6pm on Saturday, March 26 and the main event gets under way at 6.30pm.

Mike Stevens, interim chief executive for Cyclopark, said: “We are proud to be the one of the first venues to have been awarded an Arts Council grant in Gravesham.

“Karen Poley is an inspirational artist who has a history of pulling off exciting art installations in the local area and this could be the biggest and best yet.

“Whether you are a new visitor to Cyclopark or not, this is an opportunity to bring family and friends and see the park for what is likely to be a landmark event.”

Cyclopark is appealing for donations of clean and label-free jam jars ahead of the event, with 1,999 needed by Wednesday, March 23. They will join #JamJarJeff in forming a series of light installations around the venue during the show.

You can donate jars at Cyclopark or the civic centre during opening hours, and follow the collection’s progress on Cyclopark’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
