Championship boxing made its debut at Glow, Bluewater, as James DeGale successfully defended his European super middleweight belt.

DeGale was made to work hard for his points win against durable Frenchman Hadillah Mohoumadi on Saturday night.

It was the top-of-the-bill fight beamed live to the nation on Channel 5 at the end of an action-packed evening.

There were few knock-out blows during the event but plenty of highlights as close to 3,000 fight fans packed the country’s newest boxing venue.

Earlier, Hoo lightweight Adam Dingsdale made it five straight professional wins when he beat Reading-based Ibrar Riyaz, with the referee Grant Wallis scoring the four-round contest 40-37.

Lenny Daws claimed the vacant EU light welterweight title after a winning a unanimous points decision against Finland’s No.1 ranked Ville Piispanen.

Chris Eubank Jnr – watched ringside by his former world champion father – was in control for all eight rounds against Latvian Ruslans Pojonisevs but was unable to finish the win off with a KO.

Much of the talk during the night was of an expletive-laiden rant from of WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury, aimed at fellow heavyweights David Price and Tony Bellew, live on TV.

Elsewhere in the ring, Fury had earlier looked on as his cousin Phill Fury scored a middleweight points win over journeyman Duncan Cottier.

There was only one fight that didn’t go the distance as heavyweight Dillian Whythe stopped Sadnor Balogh after four rounds.
