Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish says keeping the club in the Blue Square Premier this season would be the biggest achievement of his career – even better than winning the FA Trophy at Wembley.

The rollercoaster 4-3 win over fellow strugglers Forest Green Rovers at Stonebridge Road on Saturday temporarily lifted Fleet out of the drop zone.

Fleet have picked up 15 points from their past nine games – winning five and losing four – but dropped back in the relegation zone after Rovers’ 3-2 win at Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday.

Daish admitted he was delighted with the club’s recent progress but added: "We have still got a hell of a lot of work to do.

"From now until the end of the season every game will be a cup final. Every win and even every point will be massive. But we can take a lot of confidence forward."

He admitted: "If we can secure the status of the club it would rank right at the top of the achievements in my career.

"I think it would be bigger than winning at Wembley. You have to look at the bigger picture and to do it over 46 games under the circumstances we’ve faced would be the biggest achievement for me.

"It has taken a while to build a team but it has started to come together halfway through the season which has given us a fighting chance.

Fleet return to action with a trip to Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Daish said: "Luton is a massive game away at a big club with a big budget and experienced players. It will be tough.

"But we have gained some belief from Saturday and we need that and I don’t see why we can’t get something there."
