Some 600 properties in the Gravesend area were plunged into darkness this evening due to a power failure.

Homes in the DA12 postcode district lost supply just after 6pm.

Back to candles for some tonight

Roads affected included Windmill Street, Thong Lane and South Street.

Within half an hour, UK Power Networks was able to restore supply to around 300 of the homes by switching relays and they hope to have electricity back to the remaining 324 homes still out by 9pm.
The fault has been identified as occurring in an underground power cable.
