Litter bugs and lazy dogs owners beware, a council crackdown will make you pay the price for your anti-social behaviour.

Wardens wearing CCTV cameras will soon be patrolling the streets.

Gravesham council has decided to get tough by introducing a new scheme to combat the growing problem blighting the town.

The Woodville, based in the Civic Centre in Gravesend

The initiative, in partnership with the company Kingdom, will see two officers on a trial period patrolling five days a week.

Council leader Cllr John Burden has warned people they face on-the-spot penalties for dirtying the streets.

He said: “If people insist on not being good community citizens and throw rubbish on the ground they will pay a fine.

“It’s as simple as that and we will take them to court.”

The decision was made at a council cabinet meeting on Monday evening, with councillors welcoming the plans.

They will now go before a scrutiny committee and, if given the final green light, could be put into action as soon as December.

The new litter cops will have the power to fine people £75 for littering and dog fouling.

However, if the offender is under the age of 18 they will be let off the first time, with a letter sent to their parent or guardian.

The officers will wear a uniform complete with body worn CCTV
