The London-bound carriageway of the A2 near Ebbsfleet has been re-opened after a multi-vehicle pile up.

The emergency services were called out shortly after 11am this morning after several cars, as many as six, crashed between the Ebbsfleet turn off and Bean Interchange - near the Bluewater approach.

Police are at the scene. Stock pic.

The Kent Air Ambulance landed at the scene and one person was airlifted to hospital.

Firefighters extinguished one car alight after the crash and remained at the scene for almost three hours to clear the area and make it safe.

It is not known at this stage how many other people involved in the crash are injured.

Drivers are being warned to expect Bluewater-bound traffic to be slow for a while until the tailbacks completely clear.
