A 17-year-old girl is in a "serious" condition after being hit by a car.

The teenager, from Gravesend, was hit by a silver Mercedes C-Class at 10pm yesterday evening, in Old Road East.

She has since been taken to a London hospital, and the road reopened at around 11.45am today.

Police arrested a 47-year-old man from Gravesend in connection with the incident, who has been released pending further inquiries.

It is understood the Mercedes was also involved in a collision with a black Mini Countryman and a parked car in Old Road East, alongside a parked car in Lower Higham Road.

Kent Police spokesman Martin Very said: "Officers are working to establish the circumstances of the collision and are urging anyone who saw the Mercedes travelling from Gravesend town centre into Old Road East and onto Lower Higham Road, or who have dashcam footage from the area around the time, to contact them.

"They would also like to hear from anybody whose car received collision damage whilst parked overnight in these areas."

Witnesses can call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798 538 quoting reference 14-1916. Alternatively, email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk
