A man was taken to hospital after a car crashed on the A2 on Sunday morning forcing the road to be closed.

Police and paramedics were called to the crash on the coastbound carriageway near Bean just after 11am.

The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be serious and has been reported to the Road Traffic Team on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, and being over the prescribed alcohol limit.

The man was initially arrested but police have said today that he was "de-arrested" before going to hospital.
