A man has been charged with drink driving after two bollards were knocked out of the ground and property was damaged outside a cafe.

The incident happened outside Marie's Tea Room in High Street, Gravesend, at about 2.20am on Saturday.

Virginio Ficetola, 33, of Allens Mead, Gravesend, will appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, October 10.

Graham Broadbent, owner of Marie's Tea Room, thinks repairing everything could cost around £600.

He said: "We have tidied it up as best as we can. To a small business the time and money involved in fixing it will have a huge effect.

"I think it will be around £600.

"The planters and plants are all handmade to fit, and we have to repaint for damage.

"Better town CCTV and more police presence could prevent it, although I fully understand that they are stretched financially."
