A2 stop: Three men held on suspicion of going equipped for theft

Three men were arrested after being stopped on the A2 on Wednesday night.

Officers on a routine patrol were alerted to a car at around 11pm which was travelling Londonbound on near to the Wilmington slip road.

The vehicle was registered to an older motorist however it contained three younger men.

The vehicle was pulled over and officers searched the car and found the chassis number did not match the registration plate.

The men, believed to be from Essex and aged in their 30s were subsequently arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft.

The driver was also arrested on suspicion of being over the alcohol legal limit, driving without insurance and theft from a motor vehicle. One passenger was also arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle.

Yesterday evening the men were bailed until Tuesday, February 13.
