Three men charged after heroin and cocaine worth £5 million seized from car boots in Gravesend

Three men have been charged after class A drugs with a street value of £5 million were seized from car boots in Gravesend.

Police arrested Zahid Mahmood, 42, of Handsworth, Birmingham, on Thursday after patrols stopped a car in Springhead Road.

In the boot they found a suitcase containing 10 kilos of heroin.

In another car, officers discovered three more suitcases with a similar amount of drugs leading to the arrest of two other men.

In total, 30 kilos of heroin and 12 kilos of cocaine were recovered, with an estimated value of £5 million.

Mahmood, Romeo Apostu, 43, of no fixed address and Bas Van Der Weijden, 40, of Eindhoven in Holland were charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin and have been remanded in custody.

The men appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court court on Saturday7 March and are due to face Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, March 27.
