A trader was threatened with a broken bottle when he tried to stop two youngsters robbing his Gravesend store.

The shopkeeper was confronted with the makeshift weapon after he grabbed one of the boys as he tried to escape Standons newsagent, in Gravesend.

He was working alone in the Sun Lane store when the youngsters walked in at about 8pm on Tuesday, November 16.

The younger one, thought to be about 15, asked to buy some cigarettes but was refused by the shopkeeper.

He then started to take bottles from the shelves and pushed the trader over when challenged.

The taller and older of the pair also took alcohol from the shelves and they both went to leave. But the shopkeeper managed to catch the younger boy, before being threatened with the smashed bottle.

The youngsters fled along Sun Lane towards Echo Square. The youngest wore dark clothing with the hood up, was white and about 5ft 5in. The older robber was also white but taller and wore similar clothing.

If you have any information about the incident call Detective Constable Mark Bennett at North Kent Police Station on 01474 366601 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
