Former Nightshades nightclub in Gravesend

A popular nightspot is being reopened in Gravesend under a new name and owner.

Formerly called ‘Nightshades’ in Queen Street, the club is throwing open its doors again next Friday and has sparked huge excitement from clubbers who have fond memories of the venue.

Nightshades was closed some years ago much to the dismay of Gravesend’s partygoers.

Since then hundreds of them have set up a campaign group on social networking site Facebook calling for it to reopen.

And on Friday, June 19, their calls are finally going to be answered as The Factory club and Market Bar is launched onto the town’s night scene, with a flurry of stiltwalkers, firebreathers and celebrities.

Edward Kerr, owner of the Somerset Arms pub in Darnley Road, Gravesend, is the new leaseholder of the Queen Street venue which was bought by Ajmail Burrha in February.

Despite having his name on the licence though, Mr Kerr said he will not be involved in the day to day running of the new club - as he is already busy with another nightspot he relaunched in the town last year.

The Grove club and bar in The Grove has proved popular since being given a make over by Mr Kerr after he purchased it in October 2008.

He said: "It’s great for Gravesend that there is another club opening, it will get more people into the town. The more we can get these clubs and pubs doing different things, the more people should come here, rather than going to other towns for a decent night out."

The Factory and Market Bar is reopening next Friday – calling its launch night The Resurrection and promising top DJs and RnB and Garage music.
