Money raised from the appearance of a Kent Police officer in a short Channel 4 film celebrating diversity in the United Kingdom, has been donated to Help for Heroes.

His brief appearance shows young children and adults from different ethnic groups and professions arriving at the Seven Sisters near Eastbourne.

Sergeant Singh, who is based at Northfleet station, appeared on the condition that any money set aside for his participation in the film would be donated to a charity of his choice.

He has now met with Ella Cook, a representative for the Kent arm of Help for Heroes, to hand over a cheque for £500.

He said: “These short films showed real individuals from across the United Kingdom representing their different jobs, ethnicities, genders and generations.

“It was a rich mixing pot and a true representation of 21st century Britain.

“Diversity in the police force is as important as it is anywhere else in the UK. A diverse police force is a strong police force and I am proud to have represented Kent Police in this matter, and in the process donated hundreds of pounds to a charity close to my heart.”

Mrs Cook added: “I’d like to thank Balwinder for donating to Help for Heroes. This money will be put to good use supporting those with injuries and illnesses attributable to their service in the British Armed Forces.”
