Fox has to be rescued
from Orange store

Perhaps this chap fancied the latest iPad2 or a Smartphone
upgrade?

This was the scene that brought shoppers to a standstill in the
centre of Gravesend after a fox wandered into the Orange shop.

The New Road store put signs up explaining they were closed,
while staff contacted the RSPCA to deal with the male fox, thought
to be around a year old.

According to onlookers the fox had first tried to walk into
Greggs, perhaps lured by the smell of food. But it got scared by
the number of people in the shop, before bursting through the doors
of the mobile phone shop.

Two people from The Fox Project, a Pembury-based charity which
rescues and cares for wild foxes took the youngster to a
rehabilitation centre.

Sandra Reddy, an ambulance driver for The Fox Project, said the
fox was dehydrated and was making a recovery.

She added: "When foxes get very ill they look for unusual places
to shelter, and they are not so bothered about being near humans,
which is probably why he chose to go into the shop.

"Whatever the reason in this particular case, we think the
decision to go into the shop helped save his life."

The fox will shortly be given a treatment of antibiotics and
even has a name based on his location - Citrus.
