Five in hospital after crash on A227 Wrotham Road near Meopham

Five people are in hospital after a car containing seven passengers collided with a house.

Officers are working to locate two men who left the scene before they arrived at around 12.20am this morning.

The A227 Wrotham Road was closed in both directions after the crash, which caused rush-hour delays until after 9am.

The collision, which involved a silver Ford Mondeo, took place between Steele's Lane at Meopham Green and Chapmans Hill for South Street.

Three passengers, a woman and two teenage boys, have been taken to King's College Hospital with "potentially serious injuries".

Two other passengers, a man and a teenage girl, were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for medical attention, with injuries thought to be "less serious".

Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: "Ambulance crews attended the scene and were joined by the air ambulance service.

"All patients were taken to hospital by road. The air ambulance team joined us in our vehicles to help treat the patients en route to hospital."

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash cam footage of the area from around the time of the crash, to come forward.

Witnesses should call Kent Police on 01474 366149 quoting reference 28-0023.

It comes after a car ploughed into two geese near a farm in Ridley last night, which sits between Meopham and New Ash Green.
