They later tweeted that they had found "approx. 51’000 cigarettes and tobacco" in the vehicle, and that the driver had been arrested.

Kent Police said the driver, a 24-year-old man from Swanley, was arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence or insurance, taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and theft of cigarettes.

He remains in custody.
