A former town centre sandwich shop is set to reopen after a six-month closure – but at a new location.

Crumbs closed its doors on November 26 after almost three decades of trading due to the impact of the pandemic.

But after six months, café boss Debbie Hellier has taken the "worrying but exciting" decision to open a new site in the beer garden of The Gravesend Boat in Leander Drive, Riverview.

The appropriately named Crumbs 2 will be offering takeaway orders of drinks, sandwiches and jacket potatoes.

Debbie said: "I am nervous but I am looking forward to it. It is exciting although worrying.

"I worked at Crumbs for 27 years, it has always been my passion. I found it hard to let it go and then this opportunity came up and I took it.

"It has been lovely to see all the support. I have missed all the customers and have some very supportive ones."

The former shop in King Street, Gravesend, closed after it struggled to recover after the pandemic.

In a message to customers at the time, Debbie said: "As many of you will know, this has not been an easy decision to make.

"We have soldiered on through many problems in the past but, unfortunately, the business has struggled since the pandemic and, despite our best efforts, we have not been able to recover.

"I would like to thank all of you who helped to make Crumbs as popular as it was.

"Many of you became friends rather than customers and it truly was a pleasure to see and chat to you. I will miss you all dearly."

The new shop will be run by Debbie and her daughter Amie.

An opening date is yet to be confirmed but the pair hope to welcome customers in the next couple of weeks.
