Grandmothers, mothers and daughters are invited to take part in a special outdoor "Teeyan and picnic" in Gravesend on Sunday August 15.

The Punjabi festival of Teeyan is celebrated throughout Punjab during the monsoon season and focuses on daughters and sisters getting together to enjoy folk songs, dance and music.

Gravesend's festival, organised by the Kent Saheli group, is held every year but was cancelled earlier this month due to the intended venue at The Woodville Hall being booked for Covid vaccinations.

The rescheduled event will be held on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at Fort Gardens at the Riverside Leisure Area in Gravesend, and will be the first time the event has been held outside in Gravesend.

Around 60-100 women and girls are expected, with people of all ages and cultures invited to wear their best bright suits and enjoy some traditional giddha dancing.

Participants are invited to bring their own food - such as samose, pakore or whatever they like.
