A search for reindeers, obstacle courses avoiding naughty elves and festive jumpers are just a few ways these youngsters have been enjoying the end of term.

Chantry Community Academy in Gravesend is celebrating Christmas for the first time in its new primary school after it officially opened just before lockdown.

Last week, the children took part in a reindeer hunt, where they had to search for the animals dotted around the school grounds.

One of the reindeer did not have a name, and each child was asked to think of a suitable one.

Head teacher Kathryn Duncan picked the one she liked best and Lily in Ahlberg class got to take the reindeer home after naming Skye.

This week, it was Santa's Dash, where pupils needed to be quick on their toes and sharp in their minds to get through an obstacle relay course where naughty little elves were looking for a snowball fight.

Christmas Lunch and Jumper day was also celebrated in style.

Andrew Penning, Chantry Community Academy’s early years lead, said: “This year, probably more than ever after everyone has had such a difficult time both at school and at home, we wanted our pupils to feel some of the excitement and fun that always surrounds Christmas.

"I think everyone, children and staff alike, really appreciated a sense of celebration and made sure that everyone had a special and memorable experience.”
