Man arrested in Gravesend as armed police close Wrotham Road

A road was shut by police after a man was spotted with a weapon.

Armed officers were called to Wrotham Road, in Gravesend, and a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon.

The road was briefly closed at around 8.20am while officers were in attendance, and reopened, but it has now been shut again while police continue their search.

Police spokesman James Walker said: "No weapons have been recovered and the man remains in custody."

Residents posted on social media that there was a large police presence in the area, including armed police and a dog unit.
