Schools from across Kent who have excelled in their most recent Ofsted inspections have been recognised at an awards ceremony.

Craylands Primary School, in Swanscombe was given a rating of Good while Wilmington Grammar School for Girls, in Dartford, was rated as Outstanding.

The headteachers and governors from the two Gravesham and Dartford schools joined 24 other Kentish institutions at the Mercure Hotel in Maidstone to receive certificates of appreciation from Roger Gough, KCC cabinet member for education.

He said: “Your schools are great examples of what can be achieved with the right leadership from yourselves and the continued commitment of your staff.”

Corporate director, Patrick Leeson also helped to present the honours.

He said: “We have seen the number of Kent schools achieving Good or Outstanding Ofsted judgements rise year on year, with 88 per cent now at those levels. The number of schools rated as Requiring Improvement or Inadequate continues to fall and we hope to see that reach nil fairly soon.

“Every chid deserves a good education and we want Kent to be the best place in England for them to be educated.”
