Service will remember former Mayor

A Service of Remembrance is to be held on Monday for a former Mayor of Gravesham.

Frank Marven, who lived at Chalky Bank, Gravesend, served as a Conservative councillor on Gravesend and Gravesham councils for 37 years.

He was elected Mayor in 1982.

He became an honorary Freeman of the borough five years ago, and received an MBE the following year for his service as a councillor and in the Scout movement.

He represented Pelham, Woodlands and - later - served the Shorne, Cobham and Luddesdown ward

A private family funeral is to be held at Medway Crematoriumon Monday morning.

The service of remembrance will follow at 11am in St George's Church, Gravesend.

The family said all were welcome.

They have asked that donations should be made to the EllenorLions Hospice through the undertaker, Lewis Solomon, of Darnley Road, Gravesend, in lieu of flowers.
