The 33-year-old is a second year nurse student at Canterbury Christ Church University.

She said: "I was a police officer across the county for 11 years but nursing was something I always wanted to do.

"Over the last year I've spent time at ellenor's hospice. Not only did I volunteer but I took a bank job on their Covid ward.

"Their work is incredible, however, although the donations from the public have been amazing they still haven't been able to fundraise because of the pandemic.

"So I decided to take part in the Isle of Wight ultra challenge."

Becky hopes to raise £600 for ellenor hospice

The challenge is to walk, jog or run around the island’s coastal path.

About 2,000 fundraisers take it on across the May bank holiday weekend. However, following government guidelines the event is likely to take place in June instead.

Becky is also an ex-international discus thrower. At 17 she represented England and spent most of her teenage years at Dartford Harriers Athletics Club.

She added: "Having an athletic background has definitely helped me prepare for this challenge.

"I'm keeping myself fit and I'm following a schedule that helps me build up my mileage gradually.

"The training is a little bit like a marathon; I'm building the distance all the time.

"My family are from Meopham and they've been really supportive. When I'm out on my walks they leave cups of tea outside their houses for me."

ellenor hospice provides hospice care and support to families facing terminal illness in north Kent.

It is the only charity in the county which provides hospice care for people of all ages.

Becky said: "During my time at ellenor I saw the most exceptional care. That is why I want to raise money for them.

"I have to raise £595 for the challenge so I've set my goal to £600. I felt that it's a realistic goal considering so many people are struggling due to the pandemic."

In just two days Becky had already raised £210 of her target.
