A sports club has been nominated for a selection of county awards.

Gravesham Tennis Club, in Donald Biggs Drive, has ended the year on a high after being nominated in five categories in the annual Kent Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Awards.

The Kent LTA is the governing body for tennis clubs in Kent.

The eight-court tennis association is in the running for club of the year, competition of the year, development coach of the year for Michel Suleau, official of the year for Angie Suleau and lifetime achievement award for long-serving committee member Janet O'Sullivan.

If it scoops any of the county awards, it will then be put forward for consideration at a regional and national level.

Club spokesman Rob Powell said: "Everyone at the club has worked hard in the most trying of circumstances this year but we have been proud of our boost in membership numbers, our newly refurbished courts, a visit from the mayor and our keyworker coaching programme.

"The club is grateful for this recognition of our efforts this year."

Chairman of the Kent LTA awards panel, Mary Evans, said: "These annual awards are a great way to highlight the work that clubs around the county do at a grassroots level to promote tennis."

The winners will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony on January 21.
