The town is looking blooming’ marvellous as Gravesend gears up for the 2016 Gravesham in Bloom competition.

Red, white and blue floral displays can be seen around the High Street and Town Pier areas in keeping with this year’s theme of Queen and Commonwealth.

Green-fingered groups of volunteers have been busy planting, painting and cleaning up in preparation for a visit by national judges on Tuesday, July 5.

Volunteers plant the new tyre- teacups in Gravesend High Street.

Recycled tyre-teacups appeared in the High Street overnight while a 10ft crown can be found in Community Square.

More than 300 containers have been planted around town, full of the patriotic petals.

The towns existing flower- boats have also been freshened up while a new greenhouse has been built with the help of Thamesview School, in Gravesend.

Flower- bed boats have been given a makeover too.

Gravesham is aiming for gold in the town centre category after winning silver in last year's competition.
