Traditional haulier sells up

THE last traditional haulage business in Kent Thameside has been sold.

LV Transport has been sold by its founder, Len Valsler, 66, after 37 years during which his 25 ornate red and gold-lettered lorries have taken Gravesend's name across the country.

It has been bought by R Swain and Son, the Rochester-based national haulage firm.

"I am delighted," said Mr Valsler.

He believes he will be the last lorry driver who never sat an exam, test or held an HGV licence.
