Young and old gathered to pay tribute to Servicemen and women ahead of this Saturday’s Armed Forces Day.

Today, people gathered in Community Square, Gravesend, for a flag-raising ceremony.

Gravesham Mayor John Caller began proceedings.

He said: “It is important that we show our support to the brave men and women that serve in our armed forces as well as their families.

"I am honoured to be a part of this ceremony and joining the Borough Band to sing our national anthem as well as taking time to reflect and pause for a moment for those that have served so valiantly and paid the ultimate price.”

There was music by the Salvation Army Band, including God Save the Queen, before the Standards were raised.
