A veterans’ charity football tournament raised more than £3,000 for charity.

The tournament, for players aged 35 and over, featured four teams – Milton & Denton, Guru Nanak, Valley Rovers and Sun FC – at the Old Southfields Ground, Cedar Avenue, Gravesend.

They were raising money for Cancer Research UK and the ellenor hospice charity.

Graham Pinder, Daran Poppy, Dara Chauhan from NatWest, Colette McDonach, Leah Poppy, Lee Saunders and Michelle Maynard took part in the veterans football tournament.

Sun FC lifted the trophy after beating Guru Nanak in the final, but only after it went to penalties.

Organiser Daran Poppy said: “We raised £3,000 and there’s still more to come in. That’s more than double what we raised last year.

“Last year was our first year and this year we just absolutely smashed it.

Nick Sidhu from NBC Limited hands over a cheque for £200 to Daran Poppy.

“It’s going to get bigger and bigger.

“I’d like to say thank you to all the players and the volunteers for their hard work.”
