Ash Road in Hartley taped off by police

Two men with a gun robbed a village post office this afternoon, making off with hundreds of pounds in cash.

The robbery happened at the post office in Hartley at about midday.

Ash Road was cordoned off at the junction with Culvey Close while officers investigated.

Post office manager Jes Nagra was working at the time of the robbery.

She said: "It was really scary but everybody is fine.

"There was a robbery. Two people came in with a gun and demanded money. We handed over the money and they left.

"They only got away with a little bit of money, maybe about £600 or £700."

At least three police cars were spotted at the scene and tape was stretched across the road.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police officers are currently in Hartley following a report of an armed robbery at a business property.

"Officers were called at 12pm today to a report of an armed robbery where two men are alleged to have demanded cash from a till at a business property in Ash Road.

"The road has been closed to allow officers to investigate the incident. No injuries have been reported and no arrests have yet been made."
