Emergency services at the scene

A woman has died after being hit by a train at Northfleet station.

The incident involving a freight train happened just before 11.30am yesterday.

Northfleet station was closed while emergency services sealed off the area.

All services between Gravesend and Northfleet stations were cancelled, and trains delayed from Charing Cross.

A replacement bus shuttle service operated between Gravesend and Dartford.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "BTP can confirm that a person died after being struck by a train at Northfleet rail station.

“The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.”

The train involved was a freight service travelling from Clifford to Crawley.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.
