A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman within yards of a police station.

The alleged attack took place at Springhead Road’s recreation ground in the early hours of yesterday morning, which is just a short walk away from North Kent Police Headquarters.

Police were called at 4.15am and a 31-year-old man was arrested and bailed until Monday December 5.

Police said the suspect and the victim, in her 40s, were believed to have met earlier in the evening.

Officers are continuing to investigate.
