An entire year group has been told to isolate after a confirmed Covid-19 case at a primary school.

Istead Rise Primary School in Gravesend informed parents of the decision yesterday.

All other classes remain open as normal and letters have been sent to parents and carers explaining the situation.

In a post to social media the school said: "Unfortunately, there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 at Istead Rise.

"This means our year one class will be closed until December 7."

Janet Garraway, chief operating officer, for Swale Academies Trust which runs the school, said: "I can confirm that one year group at Istead Rise Primary School is currently closed due to a single positive case of Covid-19.

"As with any Covid-19 related issues, the school has followed Department for Education/Public Health England guidance to the letter."

At least nine schools in Kent have decided to close for two weeks as the number of coronavirus cases reported continues to rise.

And the latest statistics show a fifth of schools and academies in the county have reported cases to their local authority.
