A total of 118 pupils and 12 members of staff from Riverview Infant School in Cimba Wood, Gravesend, are now at home.

They have been told to isolate until November 19 following a confirmed coronavirus case within a Year 2 "bubble" – containing both pupils and teachers – last week.

The rest of the school, which teaches pupils aged five to seven, will remain open.

Head teacher Nicole Caulfield said the school would be following Public Health England guidelines to "ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone within the school community".

She said: "Home learning will be provided via our class Dojo learning platform and staff will support pupils with their learning remotely.

“The rest of the school remains open with staff and pupils continuing to follow PHE guidance in terms of social distancing, handwashing and cleaning to minimise the spread of the virus and ensure everyone can continue to learn and work in a safe environment.

“I would like to thank the staff, our parents and carers and our pupils for their support and understanding at this difficult time.”

The infant school forms part of the Pathway Academy Trust and caters for around 340 pupils, alongside the junior school, where there are another 480 children.

The Trust is also responsible for running Culverstone Green, Wrotham Road Primary and Meopham Community Academy.
