Gravesend boxer Cheavon Clarke is going to the Tokyo Olympics.

The 30-year-old heavyweight from Gravesham Amateur Boxing Club won his second bout in as many days at the European Olympics Qualifier in Paris.

Clarke had to dig deep to see off Armenia’s Narek Manasyan on Saturday. He was behind going into round three but showed determination and superior fitness to take the round on all of the judges’ scorecards and secure a 3-2 split decision victory.

He followed that up on Sunday night with another 3-2 split decision when he took on Greece's Vagkan Nanitzanian.

Clarke is through to the last four in Paris and will now aim to defeat Spain's Enmanuel Reyes Pla in Monday's semi-final as he looks to improve his seeding for Tokyo.

Clarke, who won silver at the 2017 European Championships and bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is one of 10 boxers to have made it through to the Great Britain team for Tokyo.

The Olympics, which were delayed from 2020 due to Covid, are due to take place from July 23 to August 8.
