Ebbsfleet United sign former Charlton Athletic defender Yado Mambo and pay an undisclosed fee to Barnet for Anthony Acheampong

Ebbsfleet United have signed defenders Yado Mambo and Anthony Acheampong.

Mambo had been a target of Fleet manager Steve Brown's for months, while the north Kent club worked throughout January to negotiate a deal with Barnet for Acheampong.

Loaned to Ebbsfleet by Charlton during the 2011/12 campaign, Mambo was hugely impressive as Liam Daish's side finished 14th in Conference Premier.

Last season, he played for AFC Wimbledon in League 2 and Shrewsbury Town in League 1 before being released by Charlton in May.

Brown, who lost centre-back Shane Huke to a metatarsal injury back in October, said at the time that Mambo would be "a big addition" and his pursuit of the 22-year-old has finally paid off.

His arrival followed the announcement that Ebbsfleet had signed former Welling player Acheampong from Barnet for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, whose performances for the Wings earned him a place in the England C squad, had made 21 appearances for Barnet in the Skrill Premier this season.

Brown said: "I have been tracking Anthony for some time and am delighted to have finally secured his signature. He will be a valuable addition to the squad and provide competition in an area of the team where that has been lacking."

In the absence of Huke, who isn't expected to resume full training until March, Osei Sankofa has partnered captain Paul Lorraine in central defence but an injury to either would have exposed the Fleet's lack of cover.

And with Lorraine suffering a slight groin strain in the latter stages of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Weston-super-Mare, the new additions could hardly be more timely.
