ANDY FORD: The Gravesend boss has made three previous attempts to sign McAllister

GRAVESEND have turned to Craig McAllister's goalscoring pedigree in an effort to end a downward spiral caused by 11 games without a win.

Manager Andy Ford snapped up the 23-year-old England non-league international striker on a month's loan from Nationwide Conference rivals Stevenage and is certain to hand him a debut at fourth-placed Hereford on Saturday.

McAllister, who scored in excess of 30 goals in a season for Basingstoke and was top scorer in the Ryman League two years ago, was quickly off the mark with his first for the Fleet in the reserves' 5-2 over Dagenham on Monday.

McAllister's arrival made it third time lucky for Ford who had failed with two previous attempts to sign the player.

McAllister's appearances for Stevenage this season have been restricted by a heel injury.

Ford said: "I'm pleased to have signed Craig because he's a player I have admired for some time. I have the feeling that Stevenage are hoping he will get fit with us.

"He is an experienced, proven goalscorer, which is just what I've been looking for."
