Cambridge United 3 Gravesend & Northfleet 0

GRAVESEND slumped to a 3-0 defeat at struggling Cambridge United on Saturday.

The home side took the lead in first half stoppage time when young striker Michael Gash sent an unstoppable shot past Lance Cronin from outside the area after Marcus Richardson had headed the ball into his path.

And it was 2-0 within two minutes of the restart when Courtney Pitt got free in the box before drilling home a left-foot shot.

Gravesend's misery was complete 17 minutes from time when David Bridges was left all alone to make it 3-0.

Earlier, Stacy Long came close to opening the scoring in the second minute but his cross shot came back off the bar.

Gash missed a glorious chance to put the home side ahead in the 10th minute when he contrived to put a close range effort wide, while Cambridge skipper Andy Duncan missed the target with a free header.

Gravesend: Cronin, Ricketts, R Smith, Hawkins, Opinel, Slatter (Purcell 54), Quinn, Long (DeBolla 54), Keeling, Sodje (Ekoku 54), MacDonald.
Subs not used: Mott, Ohakam.
