Charlie MacDonald put Fleet ahead with his 10th goal of the season

Weymouth 2 Gravesend & Northfleet 1

GRAVESEND’S nine-match unbeaten run was shattered following a 2-1 defeat at Weymouth on Wednesday night.

Fleet took the lead through Charlie MacDonald, but the hosts equalised immediately and went on to grab a second half winner against the run of play.

MacDonald’s 10th of the season came in the 17th minute from 15 yards.

The advantage lasted only 80 seconds before Ben Smith struck a brilliant 25 yard shot to draw the home side level.

Substitute Onome Sodje then passed up two good chances to put the visitors back in front, and Fleet were left to rue those misses.

Richard Logan converted Lee Elam’s cross midway through the second half, and despite late pressure Gravesend could not draw level.

Weymouth move up to third in the Nationwide Conference table.

Gravesend: Cronin, J Smith, McCarthy, R Smith, Ricketts (Ekoku 78), Slatter, Quinn, DeBolla (Sodje 22), Opinel (Purcell 90), Moore, MacDonald.
Subs not used: Mott, Hawkins.
