GRAVESEND will not make further signings for the sake of bringing new players into the club, assistant manager Adrian Pennock assured supporters this week.

And there is every chance the club have already made their final excursion into the transfer market before the new Nationwide Conference season kicks off on August 14.

Having bolstered the squad with the arrival of Graham Porter, Jay Saunders, Lee Protheroe, Manny Omoyinmi and Jimmy Jackson, Pennock said that he and manager Andy Ford were satisfied with the way it was shaping up.

Though the club failed in attempts to recruit Oxford's Paul McCarthy, Jake Leberl from Margate and the Sutton striker John Nurse, no further moves into the market are planned unless an exceptional player became available.

Pennock said: "We're pleased with the squad and some have gone as far as to say it is the strongest the club have had since returning to the Conference.

"We are certainly not looking to make signings for the sake of it. At the moment, the market has gone extremely quiet, though we could make a move should the right player suddenly become available.

"Whether we go with what we have come the start of the season remains to be seen. But as I say, we're happy with what we've got."
