GOAL HERO: Charlie MacDonald

Canvey Island 1 - 2 Gravesend & Northfleet

A LAST minute winner by Charlie MacDonald gave Gravesend their first victory of the Nationwide Conference season at Canvey Island on Saturday.

Fleet had to come from behind though after the home side took the lead in the eighth minute when Chris Duffy was on hand to knock in Allan Tait's fine cross.

But the visitors were level nine minutes before the break when MacDonald fired home a penalty given for a handball by Ben Chenery.

Jon Keeling almost put Canvey Island back in front midway through the second half, but new Fleet goalkeeper Luke McShane did well to save at his feet.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until MacDonald scored an excellent goal deep into injury time.

Attendance: 1,070.
