WINNER: Luke Moore

Gravesend & Northfleet 1 Margate 0

GRAVESEND & Northfleet overcame holders Margate 1-0 in their Kent Cup semi-final tie at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night thanks to a solitary goal from Luke Moore.

Both teams were looking to continue rich traditions in the competition, having lifted the cup three times each in the past six years.

Danny Hockton was unable to make the most of an early chance for Margate, before Moore broke the deadlock on 20 minutes from close range.

Jay Saunders drove a shot wide soon after the restart but a largely uneventful first half ended without further score.

Fleet controlled the second half but were indebted to keeper Aaron Kerr for preserving their lead when he denied Hockton from close range.

The home side lost Jimmy Jackson, who was stretchered off after being injured when John Keister tried to charge down his shot, and although Margate tried to apply some late pressure they struggled to cause any problems.

Fleet will face the winners of the other semi-final between Bromley and Ramsgate. They return to Nationwide Conference action on Saturday with a trip to Stevenage.
