Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon on the 2-0 defeat to Aldershot Town

Daryl McMahon was left to rue missed chances after Ebbsfleet's midweek defeat to Aldershot.

Goals from James Rowe and Scott Rendell made the difference at Stonebridge Road as Fleet lost a league game for the first time since Boxing Day 2016.

McMahon's side had enough of the ball but failed to strike when they were on top.

McMahon said: "We had numerous chances that we didn’t take, at crucial times.

"We had a 15-minute period when we had them locked in in the first half, lots of set-pieces, lots of opportunities and before they scored we had a great chance as well that we didn’t take on the edge of the box and the start of the second half we had a couple, Daz getting down the side, that we didn’t take advantage of.

"If you don’t score when you’re on top, you normally don’t win.

"We had numerous chances in and around their box that we didn’t capitalise on, especially in the first half when we had that period when I don’t know how many balls went under the crossbar but it wouldn’t go in for us.

"They’re the moments when you have to score and it changes the match. If you don’t score when you have that 15-minute period, it’s a massive confidence boost for them to ride that out. For us, it’s a bit of a blow that you don’t capitalise when you’re on top."

It's now one win in 10 for Ebbsfleet, who drew seven in a row before the the Aldershot game

"It’s the finer details that win or lose you football matches," McMahon said. "At the minute I don’t think we’re clinical enough in both boxes and we’re not getting the rub of the green as well, which makes a massive difference.

"But the lads are working hard to make sure we improve performances and results.

"We should have been better here and there but, across the course of the game, Aldershot deserved to win. If you don’t take you chances you don’t deserve to win football matches and that’s down to me.

"The players worked hard, I can’t knock any of them for that and we just need to be a little bit better."
